American International Pictures (AIP) was the brainchild of producers James H. Nicholson and Samuel Z. Arkoff. In 1954 they formed AIP with the sole purpose of producing independent, low-budget films packaged as double-features and geared towards teenagers. Films were made cheaply and shot in a matter of days. Most of them directed by Roger Corman, who later on in the role of producer would employ young actors and filmmakers who would go on to become famous, and who had their first break at AIP.
