Sound:    Vibrations of an object.

Pitch:     The relative highness or lowness of a sound.

Tone:      a sound that has a definite pitch or frequency of beats per second.

Interval: the distance in vibrations between any two tones

A: a large interval a large distance in vibrations

ex. 100 beats per second to 2000 beats per second or a large distance between piano keys

B: a small interval is a small distance between two piano keys

Octave: interval between two tones in which the higher tone has twice the

frequency than the lower tone.

Also 8 tones away on a keyboard 8 = octo in latin

The four main properties of sound

Pitch, Dynamics, Rhythm or durations and Tone Color

Vibrations: A = 440 vibrations per second

                         And octave higher = 880

                         And another octave = 1760

All vibrations sound higher when the speed goes faster

and lower when the speed goes slower

Amount of Vibrations the Human Ear can hear

up to= 20,000 to 25,000 beats per second

Dog, Whistle = 40,000 beats per second

Humans can't hear a dog whistle because it beyond the human range of

hearing.

 3 ways sounds are important

1. We use them to communicate.

2. We use to express emotions.

3. We use them to know what is going on in the world.

2 ways no sounds affect us

Music Elements: these are music terms that are used to describe what is

going on in a piece of music.

They are:

1. Tone Colors (instruments that are used in the song)

2. Dynamics (loud and soft)

3. What is being expressed in the song. Ex. love, anger, etc.

4. Where the song takes place. Ex. Wedding, club etc.

Piano the instrument is designated piano(I)

Piano the dynamic is designated piano (D)

You are responsible for 4 musical elements for 5 songs.
