Before you translate: copy  the following notes in your notebook.

 1. autem – IS A POSTPOSTIVE – THAT IS, IT NEVER COMES FIRST IN A SENTENCE OR Clause. It is uSUALLY, but not always, PLACED  AFTER THE  First word of the sentence or  Clause.

 

2. In sentences   2, 3, and 4 you are introduced with a NEW Ablative Construction  That has 2 Meanings: The First is Ablative of Time When: this indicates when  some situation takes place. It     is expressed by the ablative case without  a preposition.

     e.g.      Secunda Vigilia  pugnabant.

                They were fighting at the second watch. [time when]

                  The second is the ablative of time within which. This indicates the time span within which some situation takes place. when or Within which. It is expressed by the ablative case without  a preposition.

                Multa oppida uno anno  oppugnaverant.

               They had stormed many towns in one year.  [Time  within which]
